Nose
A battling strength to the massive initial aroma that is quickly tamed by a sweet, creamy vanilla with a rich oaky scent, plums and peat. Small-spiced notes of cinnamon and nutmeg, with hints of liquorice. Strong black coffee and walnuts to caramel and oak, with a hint of sea salt. A complex aroma with a mix of different soft fruit aromas and that time-honoured tang of peat.
Palate
Starts with a wave of creamy vanilla with subtle oak and then slowly builds to a thick, almost treacly sweetness. A complex mix of fruit and spice, with a superb liquorice (aniseed) and cinnamon. A hint of sea salt and a dry, spicy flavour of cloves and cinnamon.
Finish
Intense smoke with an extensive aftertaste.
