Description

Laphroaig was founded in 1815 by two brothers from the unassuming Johnston family on the south coast of Islay. Named after the location that the distillery itself was created upon, the name loosely translates to the 'broad hollow by the bay'. Leathery aromas of new cars and singed roast beef, butter icing, mint, orange peel and dark berries. Salty notes, olive brine, soy sauce, inky and phenolic smoke, sweet pipe tobacco, toffee, dry wood smoke.
Palate
Demerara sugar, liquorice, stewed orange, dried cherries, cinnamon baked apples and blackcurrants. Salt, brine, dry smoke, hoisin sauce, citrus, plum sauce, marmalade, apricot jam, cracked pepper. Oily texture, brown sugar, preserved lemon.
Finish
Long. Dried orange peel, wood smoke, salt. Inky and tarry smoke.
