Description

This Laphroaig Cairdeas, meaning 'friendship' in Gaelic, was created as a limited edition for the 2008 Islay Festival and the Friends of Laphroaig. It was bottled in 2008 at a natural cask strength of 55% ABV. The whisky is a blend of various vintage quarter cask spirits, ranging from 4 to 9 years old, which were re-racked into first-fill ex-bourbon casks for an additional four years. This was then blended with two 17-year-old second-fill sherry butts. This release was limited to 3,600 bottles. [1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14]

Nose
Fresh apple, ripe peach, zesty lemon, clove spice, charred oak, medicinal smoke, unripe honeydew melon, marine salt. Pungent and smoky with notes of coal smoke, coal tar soap, iodine, vanilla, sweet barley, and marzipan. [1, 5, 8]
Palate
Vibrant citrus, caramel, warm cinnamon, almond undertones, creamy mouthfeel, vanilla smoke, and iodine-infused hospital gauze. It starts surprisingly sweet, then becomes salty and dry, with billows of tarry smoke and medicinal, seaweed-like flavours, all covered in a layer of toffee, caramelized almonds, and lemon candy. Finish
Medium-long with dried apricot, spicy oak, smoky, spicy dryness, and a warm afterglow. It is sweet initially but becomes much drier. [1, 8]
