Description

Laphroaig was founded in 1815 by two brothers from the unassuming Johnston family on the south coast of Islay. Named after the location that the distillery itself was created upon, the name loosely translates to the 'broad hollow by the bay'. Nose
Pungent and smoky (coal smoke), with coal tar soap and iodine. Light charred wood, light charcoal, light smoke, and a light Islay-mafia nose. Eucalyptus, vanilla, freesia, blackberry, pears, lavender, and a touch of brine, presenting as creamy, floral, and fruity.
Palate
Surprisingly sweet to start, then salty and dry, with billows of tarry smoke, medicinal, and seaweed-like flavours. Smooth, with wood, minty, methanoly notes, giving way to mellowed wood flavors and a light wood smoke. Intensely sweet but light, with green apples, plums, honey, castor sugar, and pecans.
Finish
Short to medium, with wood smoke. Medium-long, with watermelon rind, camphor, and blueberries.
