Description

A Scottish malt whisky distillery on the Isle of Mull, originally established as Ledaig back in 1798. Having experienced a turbulent early history, Burn Stewart Distillers has brought success and stability to it in the modern era. It currently produces a standard non-peated spirit and a peated malt. One of Scotland's most iconic and long-running independent bottling brands. Introduced by Gordon & MacPhail. Ledaig is the peated expression of Tobermory distillery.

Nose
Herbal, aromatic nose with hints of mixed spices, creamy custard and a little smoke. Peppery, plasticky peat. Lots of vanilla and honey, joined by a basket full of garden herbs and a hint of white fruit. Rotting plants. Gingerbread and a whiff of white pepper. Nicely oily and pretty feisty.
Palate
Pear drops, allspice, toffee apples and chocolate-coated Brazil nuts. Lightly fruity, plasticky melon-like light papaya palate. Lots of apples and pears, mostly the latter. Lovely development of smoke. Quite woody/oaky, with a nutty and peaty aroma. Tingle on the tongue with a slightly salty and peppery touch.
Finish
Sweet, spiced finish. Perfume-like with fruit lingering. Medium long, relatively peppery with a floral note, if not perfume-y. Bittersweet, nutty and a bit dryish.
