Description

This Ledaig 2011 Cuvée No. 2 is an 8-year-old single malt Scotch whisky independently bottled by Signatory Vintage for Kirsch Import. Distilled in September 2011 and bottled in March 2020 at cask strength of 60.6% ABV, it is part of a six-part limited Cuvée Series for the German market. The whisky was initially matured in Refill Spanish Butts and then finished for 29 to 34 months in Refill Bordeaux Hogsheads. Finally, it was combined with half of the distillate from one of the Refill Spanish Butts that remained in it for the entire maturation period. This release is natural color and non-chill filtered, with an outturn of 643 bottles.

Nose
Strong Ledaig smoke, slightly dry notes of Bordeaux red wine, sweet vanilla, malt, grilled apricots, citrus, blackcurrant, light barnyard, salmiak liquorice, fruity-winey background, burnt rubber, maritime notes with seashells and driftwood. With water, ripe raspberries and light citrus notes emerge.
Palate
Powerful and intense with an initial burst of smoke and ash. Forest berry jam, fresh pastry, chili, redcurrant, apricots, ginger, nutmeg, oak, and maritime notes. Sweetness like fruit preserve rather than caramel, also wine gum, smoky raspberry jam with orange zest and a spoonful of stirred-in ash.
Finish
Long, warming, and dry. Lingering smoke, ash, malt sweetness, cloves, citrus-menthol freshness, and herbal notes.
