The sweet oakiness and oak spice sound like a useful counterpoint to the tar, peat smoke, and red fruit. Still, the overall character reads more smoky and coastal than oak-led, so the balance feels more compelling than an oak-focused showcase.

Tarry smoke and juicy red fruit make for a distinctive contrast.

The red fruits, chocolate and orange give the heavy tar, oily smoke and brine something to push against. That sounds more compelling than simply piling on peat, though the rubber, medicinal and engine-oil notes make it a rough-edged proposition. The stated medium-to-long finish keeps the coastal smoke and salt in view. I’d rate it well for that distinctive contrast, while recognizing that this is a forceful style rather than an easygoing one.

the smoke is a clear part of this whisky’s character, with tar and ash alongside juicy red fruit. that contrast makes it an appealing fit for my taste, without the fruit pushing the peat into the background.
