Description

Lochlea Ploughing Edition First Crop is the fourth and final installment of Lochlea's 'First Crop' seasonal series, inspired by the winter season on the farm. This release, launched on Burns Night 2023, is the distillery's first peated expression, achieved by maturing their unpeated spirit in a combination of ex-Islay barrels and peated quarter casks. Lochlea is an independent farm distillery in Ayrshire, Scotland, established in 2018, using barley grown on its own farms.

Earthy peat, warm apple pie, dark caramelised sugar, cinnamon spice, vanilla, dry wood, salinity, zesty lemon, sour apples, and a hint of dried seaweed.
Palate
Bonfire smoke, spiced apple compote, toasted cobnuts, buttery shortbread, hot peppers, medium peat, sweet barley husks, soft lemon, and notes of hazelnut chocolate and nuts.
Finish
Damp embers, warming allspice, creamy malt, soft peat smoke, ash, lingering fruit and nuttiness, with a haze of Islay peat smoke and fresh coastal notes of sea salt.
