Description

A Speyside malt distillery with important connections to a number of blended Scotch brands. Today it is part of the Chivas Brothers division of Pernod Ricard who, despite its needing much of its stock for the likes of Chivas Regal and Ballantine's, also market its single malt. This 1973 vintage Longmorn was selected by independent bottlers Signatory and aged for 21 years.

Nose
Dark sweet malt, dark overripe fruit, graham, grain and caramel syrup. It's a dark sweet aroma that comes off a bit sticky and cloying. It's almost overwhelmingly sweet for me.
Palate
Starts off with a weird combo of dirty malt, caramel syrup, vanilla and stale spice. It then morphs into a slightly sulfury wood. Weird. Not horrible, just weird and edging up on being cloyingly sweet.
Finish
This is the best part of the whisky. A nice medium fade of malt, fudge, caramel, citrus and wood.
