Description

The 2021 edition of Longrow 18 Year Old is a heavily peated single malt from Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown, matured for 18 years in a combination of 60% ex-sherry, 30% ex-bourbon, and 10% ex-Chardonnay casks. It is bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered, and with natural color. This limited annual release offers a complex profile of smoke, dried fruit, vanilla, and maritime character.

Nose
Mild smoke, savory, engine lubricant, gasoline, sweet and fruity (apple, pear, dried apricot), mashed potato, nuttiness, greenhouse smells. Complex interplay of maritime influence and peat smoke, with hints of sweet wild berries, dried fruit and brine layered over subtle vanilla and spice.
Palate
Subtle smoke and very peppery, wet peat, ashy, citrus fruits (bitter orange, pomelo, lemon). Chalky, sparkling tonic note with bitter walnut and nutmeg. Rich and textured, honeycomb, butterscotch and creamy vanilla meld with smoky embers, gentle herbs and hints of citrus zest.
Finish
Medium to long, tonic water and bitter lemon, dies on toasted wood, ashes and a pinch of pepper. Lingering coastal peat, burnt embers and worn leather, with tobacco leaf and spice notes carrying through.
