Description

Lot No. 40 Dark Oak is a 100% rye Canadian whisky from Corby Spirit And Wine Ltd., distilled at Hiram Walker Distillery in Windsor, Ontario. This expression is known for its bold character, being aged first in new American oak barrels (char #2) and then finished in heavily charred new oak barrels (char #4) to impart deeper, darker, and more intense flavors. Bottled at 48% ABV, it is a non-age statement release that has received critical acclaim, including being named World's Best Rye at the 2021 World Whiskies Awards.

Palate
Bold flavors of heavy rye spices, white pepper, clove, and toasted sugar. Sweet and soft with oak notes, barrel char, and vanilla. Hints of citrus, caramel, walnuts, marzipan, and menthol. Some describe it as robust and challenging, with a tingling mouthfeel, ginger, and canned peaches.
Finish
Long, sweet, and spicy with lingering notes of oak, caramel, and fruit (cherry cola, pomegranate, apples). Menthol, clove, and tobacco smoke are also present. Described as drying with a pitchy tone and hot peppers fading into barley sugar sweetness.
