Komagatake Limited Edition 2020 Mars Shinshu is a Japanese single malt from the Mars Shinshu Distillery. It matured in American White Oak and Sherry Casks and was bottled in 2020 to celebrate the distillery's completed renovation. 15000 bottles of Komagatake Limited Edition 2020 Mars Shinshu have been released. The Mars Shinshu Distillery was established in 1985, mothballed in 1992 and resumed production in 2011. The whisky was distilled in 2014. It is non-chill filtered.

Nose
An aroma of mature plums, leading to a gentle sweet scent of elegant honey and vanilla. Hints of dried fruits, vanilla and oakiness. Spicy and fruity tones, cinnamon and a hint of nutmeg frame nuts (almonds, walnuts), peach, apricot, plum, mango, with vegetal and floral inflections.
Palate
Sherried fruit, with bitter flavours that hint of cocoa, with orange fruit and zest. Sweet and fruity notes intermingle with the warmth of oak spices. Dark chocolate and dried fruits provide a luscious sweetness, while subtle hints of vanilla and caramel. Orange blossom and cracked peppercorn box with roasted cocoa nibs and jackfruit.
Finish
Nutty and bitter, with a gentle aftertaste. Lingering and satisfying conclusion. Oak tannins and the subtle sweetness from the Sherry casks endure. Sweet honeyed fruits, brighter strawberry, a hint of meaty sulfur, hay malt, lightly floral, baking spice. Not very long finish of red fruits, vegetal notes, spices, wood.
