Description

A Northern Irish whiskey company that traces its roots back to 1817 when it was established in Newry. The current iteration was revived in 2015 by Michael McKeown and intended to rebuild the original company's old distillery on its original site, however shelved the plan in 2023. This is the first release in over a century from Matt D'Arcy & Co. Ltd, a 17 year old single malt finished in a rum cask.

Nose
Silky-smooth layers of vanilla sweetness, honey, peppers and spices that tail-off into a warm, rewarding after-taste. Delicate and refined with aromas of white grapes, lychee, white flowers, jasmine, rosewater and lime flowers. Wafts of sweet vanilla, honey and pepper spice.
Palate
Light spiciness with subtle notes of honey, vanilla, apple sweetness, almonds, cinnamon and plum. Soft, light and floral with delicate tropical fruits, pineapple, white grapes, green apples and lychee. Gentle spice, hints of cinnamon, caramel and orchard fruits.
Finish
Medium length with those tropical notes persisting. Excellent balance, smooth supple single malt with plenty of sugar and spice from the rum finishing period.
