Description

This is part of Silvano Samaroli's first ever solo series of bottlings, a follow up to his 1979/1980 collaboration with Wm. Cadenhead. It is rather cumbersomely titled The Never Bottled Top Quality Whisky series, however is better known as the "Flowers" range. The bottlings all have hand-drawn labels by Samaroli himself, and a second series was released in 1990 as an homage to them.

Nose
Deep and brooding. Hints of white chalk and white latex wall-paint. Old bottle effect combined with a minty note. Hints of peach, dried apricots and ripe, yet not overpowering, banana. Cherries on syrup. Steam, also with hints of latex. Well balanced. Vegetal and green, especially after some time of breathing. Late to the mix: pencil shavings as well as some cold dish water. Maybe even a tiny hint of smoke, but this also can be the toasted bit from the cask-char. The whole nose has this promise of a sweet Whisky. The colored bits of Licorice Allsorts.
Palate
Tar and tobacco and maybe some leather. Not very heavy due to the relatively low ABV. Dusty and deep. Shows the Whisky can be about the wood it matured in. The creamy vanilla from the nose is lacking here, but definitely here, is the dry tannic wood and slight bitterness. Definitely not a chewy Whisky. Old and distinguished. Like an old mens club. Phileas Fogg style. The body falls back a bit.
Finish
Finishes great, which makes up for the dry start, with a nice warming aftertaste.
