Description

Founded in 1895, Gordon and MacPhail has been bottling single malt whiskies for 120 years and by the 1950s it held the largest range of bottled malt whiskies in the world. This family-run business has bottled one of the oldest single malt whiskies in the world - a Mortlach 1939 75 Year Old - as well as being a distiller itself after buying Benromach in 1993. This Miltonduff 1969 was matured for 41 years in sherry casks and bottled at 43% ABV by independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail for their Distillery Labels range.

Nose
Brown sugar, strawberry jam, mint, orange marmalade, herbal, tannic over-brewed black tea, chocolate-covered prunes. Dark, brooding and intense sherry hints coupled with acetone and red fruits, backed by nutmeg, allspice, oak, black pepper and surprisingly, iodine.
Palate
Syrup consistency, then looser, exploding with big spices, dried fruit and cranberries towards the finish with a lot of tannins. Dark, brooding and intense sherry richness followed by demerara sugar and slight hints of acetone. Nutmeg and allspice emerge, with a hint of smoke and vanilla, and slightly tannic notes counterpointing red fruits.
Finish
Mineral, medium, cranberries. Medium to long, with red fruits, dense sherry, oak and demerara sugar notes being most dominant, and a hint of smoke lingering.
