Description

A heavyweight Speyside malt distillery that is home to Scotland's most complex distillation regime. Famously distilling its spirit 2.81 times, its whisky is synonymous with the Johnnie Walker blends and beloved as a single malt, particularly when sherry cask-aged. One of Scotland's most iconic and long-running independent bottling brands. Introduced by Gordon & MacPhail in the 1970s, it has been bottled by Gordon & MacPhail in the early 1970s for the Italian market under the original black Connoisseurs Choice label. This is a very rare investment grade bottle of 1936 vintage Mortlach.

Nose
Complex yet not overwhelming, very fragrant with notes of old leather, coal smoke, prunes, library dust, sherried fruitiness, fruit compote, plum jam, eucalyptus, pine resin, fruit cake, camphor, tobacco, herbal liqueur, raspberry ganache, mint, cedar, and caramelized sugar.
Palate
Firm, powerful, with a well-balanced attack of peat, smoke, spices, babelutte, hard butter toffee, wax, sultanas, almonds, mint, red fruit gums, Turkish delight, toffee, mocha, and chocolate notes, with hardly any oak or bitterness.
Finish
Very light and refreshing, long, with smoke, soft resin, and hints of tea.
