Description

Founded in 1895, Gordon and MacPhail has been bottling single malt whiskies for 120 years and by the 1950s it held the largest range of bottled malt whiskies in the world. This family-run business has bottled one of the oldest single malt whiskies in the world - a Mortlach 1939 75 Year Old - as well as being a distiller itself after buying Benromach in 1993. They bottle whisky across several range. Mortlach is known as the 'Beast of Dufftown' and is famous for its unique '2.81 distillations' process.

Nose
Malt, orchard fruit, vanilla taffy, sherry, orange peel, toffee and some nuts, spice and dark fruit. Initially sweet, fresh, and fragrant with a distinct malty nose. Citrus elements develop – fresh orange peel. Delicate Sherry notes linger and weave with rich indulgent toffee, sweet liquorice, and orange marmalade.
Palate
Cocoa, earthy malt, vanilla, toffee, sherry, citrus, olde taffy and a bit of honey, graham and strawberry Pop-Tarts. Subtle sweetness with hints of candied fruits. A rounded Sherry edge is evident and some raisin and sultana notes emerge. Reminiscent of a Black Forest cake; the initial sweetness develops into fruity blackcurrant jam, maraschino cherry, and creamy vanilla. Freshly peeled orange notes add a fresh lift.
Finish
Long -> Honey and strawberry Pop-Tarts. Well rounded; hints of candied citrus fruits and oak complement the lingering malty edge. Medium-long, and warming.
