Description

Mortlach Midnight Dusk is part of Diageo's Special Releases 2024, a collection that explores new horizons of flavor. This Speyside single malt is finished in ex-Italian Ramandolo white wine and Sangiovese red wine casks, creating a daring and umami-rich expression. It aims to evoke the decadent atmospheres of sunset aperitifs, offering a complex and seductive character with layered crisp fruit, caramelized miso, and a hint of cured prosciutto notes. Bottled at natural cask strength and without chill-filtration, it captures full texture and character, presenting a bold, refined, and distinctive whisky.

Nose
Crisp and fresh with fruit and floral intersections, including apple, apricot, peach, pineapple, green melon, blackcurrant, cherry, hawthorn, orange peel, and lemon. Mellifluous notes of marzipan, caramel, marshmallow, coconut oil, and acacia honey emerge, with a subtle sulphurous backbone.
Palate
Vinous and sweet with red fruits (gooseberries, blueberries), floral hues (sugared violets), and marzipan. A combative spicy section with black pepper and ginger, along with notes of coffee, cocoa, pecans, macadamia, and sulfur. Smooth and creamy texture.
Finish
Medium to long, with vegetal notes, red fruits, licorice, nuts, wood, and a slightly bitter note. Dry, tongue-tingling, and warmly spicy with some fruity acidity and a pinch of white pepper.
