Description

An ode to Mortlach's smallest yet most essential still, the 'Wee Witchie', this 12-year-old Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been double cask matured in both European and American oak (ex-bourbon and ex-sherry) to enhance its distinctively rich and robust character. It is crafted using a unique 2.81 times distillation process, earning Mortlach whiskies the reputation as 'The Beast of Dufftown'.

Nose
Rich and full-bodied with notes of dried fruits, dark toffee, sherry sweetness, and a subtle meaty, umami character. Hints of damson, toasted almond, cinder toffee, honey, spice, malt, yellow raisins, pear juice, cocoa, cinnamon, lemon, tangerine, peach, cedar wood, and tobacco are also present.
Palate
A bold and complex palate featuring toffee, dark chocolate, and dried fruits like raisins and figs. The signature meaty and savoury character is balanced by cinnamon, nutmeg, citrus zest, and oak. Further notes include warming oak, soft raisins, olive oil salinity, dates, tea, simple syrup, chocolate fudge, white pepper, cola, campfire char, thick caramel, orange marmalade, cherry jam, ginger, chewing tobacco, and demerara sugar.
Finish
Long, warming, and slightly dry, with lingering oak spice, dark caramel, and pepper. A faint smokiness and the Mortlach meaty richness persist, alongside notes of cherry, raisins, chocolate, bitter oak, bitter plum, charred orange peel, latte coffee, grapefruit, walnut skins, faint tobacco ash, and mint.
