Description

This whisky is a product of Nikka's second distillery, the Miyagikyo. 'Malty & Soft' lives up to its name; it's approachable, and yet complex enough to appeal to aficionados. The distillery takes a pioneering approach to its craft, making use of both gain and malt spirits, and a pair of Coffey stills.

The aroma opens with crisp freshness, reminiscent of summer orchard fruits. Fragrant malt notes gradually emerge, interwoven with hints of youthful bitterness and dry wood, honeyed malt, biscuity notes, light fruit, herbal malt, and a hint of smoke.
Palate
The initial sip offers a satisfying malty mouthfeel with a youthful, invigorating malt character. Hints of dried apple and herbal notes dance on the tongue, leading to a dry malt finish with a subtle sour twist. More malt, a stronger layer of smoke, with a slight hint of acetone or nail polish behind the honeyed sweetness and oak spice.
Finish
The finish lingers pleasantly, showcasing the interplay of malt and dry wood. It is light and soft, fading relatively quickly. The smoke is presented softly, with crispy notes of ginger and grapefruits, and a lingering aftertaste of soft smoke and tobacco leafs.
