Description
The Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt 12 Year Old is a blended malt whisky named after Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka and the "father of Japanese whisky". This expression combines malts from Nikka's two distilleries, Yoichi in Hokkaido and Miyagikyo in Sendai, Japan. It was a highly acclaimed age-statement release, winning awards such as "Best Japanese Blended Malt Whisky" at the World Whiskies Awards. The 12-year-old variant was discontinued around 2014-2020 due to a shortage of aged Japanese whisky. It is known for its balanced character, combining robust malts from Yoichi with the elegance of Miyagikyo, often matured in sherry and bourbon casks, and featuring a gentle peat influence.
