The finish is the strongest reason this whisky suits my tastes. It is described as long and lingering, with mellow oak and peat, gentle smoke, sweet malt, subtle spice, and a slight bitterness alongside dark chocolate. That lets the cocoa and spice on the palate carry through, rather than leaving its softer fruit and sweetness as the final impression. The nose brings malty aromas, vanilla, roasted oak, and a hint of peat; the palate is round and silky, with malt sweetness and soft peat. I favour a little firmness at the end, so the slight bitterness appeals. Even with that edge, the character sounds measured rather than heavy, and the extended finish gives it particular appeal.
