Description

This limited edition set from Nikka features single malts from their Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries, both finished in rum casks and bottled in 2017. The Yoichi expression combines its characteristic peat and smokiness with tropical sweetness, while the Miyagikyo offers a delicate, fruity profile enhanced by caramelized notes and spice from the rum wood.

Nose
For Yoichi, expect fruity notes of honeydew melon, Asian pears, and orchard fruits, with a waxy character, sharp grapefruit, noble wood, nuts, molasses, and a hint of vanilla. For Miyagikyo, a balanced sweetness and minerality with tropical peach, mango, clotted cream, vanilla, fresh citrus, honey, leather, sugared almonds, floral notes, velvety marzipan, and dark caramel.
Palate
Yoichi offers a waxy mouthfeel with honeydew melon, roasted barley tea, lemon, grapefruit, smooth sweetness, winter spice, and a rich, smoky, and enveloping texture. Miyagikyo presents a textured and fruity profile with peach, pears in milk chocolate, caramel, vanilla, honey, woody notes, light tobacco, oiliness, strong oak, maple syrup, demerara sugar, creamy vanilla, savory walnut, molasses, burnt sultanas, chocolate, and tropical hints.
Finish
Yoichi has a medium to short finish with grapefruit and mineral water, long, spicy, smooth, and a slight bitter chocolate edge. Miyagikyo's finish is spicy, warming, long, fruity, with lingering oak spice, tropical fruits, and a mild to moderate chili-like burn.
