Description

This is an 18-year-old single cask whisky from Nikka's Yoichi distillery, distilled in 1991 and bottled in 2009. Yoichi whiskies are known for their robust, peaty character and subtle smokiness, a result of traditional practices such as direct coal-fired distillation. The distillery's location near the sea in Hokkaido, Japan, contributes maritime influences and a distinctive, full-bodied profile. This particular release was bottled for La Maison du Whisky.

Nose
Very waxy and honeyed, with floral notes, peaches, vanilla, honeydew melon, woody notes (sawdust), cinnamon, ginger lemonade, and hints of leather armchairs.
Palate
Rather hot and spicy with a peppery kick. Peat is noticeable but not predominant, with a touch of smoke and salty undertones. Getting sweeter with hints of yellow raisins, well balanced with the wood.
Finish
Long and warming, with a round chocolate sweetness, tangerines, and the lightest hint of peat.
