Description

The Rare Malts are a series of Diageo cask-strength releases designed to show off some of the lesser known whiskies in its empire. Selected from what were deemed to be some of the best casks in their warehouses, the series enjoys a stellar reputation for quality, and as a result bottlings are highly sought after today. While the series is now discontinued, its legacy lives on through the Diageo Special Releases. This particular expression is a 20 Year Old from the closed North Port distillery, distilled in 1979 and bottled in 1999 at a natural cask strength of 61.2%.

Grassy notes, unripe fruit, honeydew, honeysuckle, white pepper, maltiness, antiseptic, fresh hay, honey, oak, vanilla.
Palate
Spicy with red chili, white pepper, aniseed, nutmeg, grassy and green notes, evolving to citrus, lemon drops, grapefruit. Apples, pears, oak, minty chocolate, apricots, pineapple.
Finish
Medium to long, fading spiciness, prominent honeydew. Smooth, flavorful, warm, powerful, astringent tannic notes, hints of oak and charred wood.
