Description

This ongoing series from Bruichladdich is the most heavily peated whisky in the world. Named after James Brown's farm that is situated above Port Charlotte, this Brobdingnagian whisky deftly lives up to its description as, "The iron fist in the velvet glove". 61.2% ABV / 75cl Bottle Number: One of 18,000 bottles released. The Octomore 08.3 5 Year Old Masterclass Islay Barley was distilled in 2011 using 100% Islay barley and matured for five years, with 56% in first fill ex-Bourbon American oak casks and the remainder in European oak casks previously hosting Pauillac, Ventoux, Rhone, and Burgundy wines. It boasts a peat level of 309.1ppm.

Nose
Peaty but very sweet, balancing deep smoke with toffee, vanilla syrup, honeyed pancakes with cinnamon, coastal notes, limestone, medicinal hints, burnt heather, tar, and peach sweetness.
Palate
Intense peatiness, initially peaches, then sharp and slightly bitter with peppery and gingery notes. Flavors of dark chocolate, cherry, peach, toasted sweet oak, boot polish, and seaweed.
Finish
Long, smoky, spicy, ash, toasted oak, liquorice, sweet fruit, caramel, citrus, coconut sugar, dark chocolate, burnt caramel, coffee roast, tobacco leaves, dark plum, orange, and kiwi.
