Description

The Pulteney distillery was founded in 1826 in the historic Caithness fishing port of Wick. This 18-year-old single malt was released in mid-2018 as part of a new core range. It is matured in second-fill American oak ex-bourbon casks and finished in first-fill Spanish ex-Oloroso sherry casks. The whisky is non-chill filtered and bottled at 46% ABV, known for its rich chocolate, creamy vanilla, honey sweetness, and vibrant spices, with a distinctive maritime character.

Nose
Intense and warming. Welcoming chocolate and creamy vanilla, with rich honey sweetness tempered by vibrant spices. A whisper of flowery fruitiness yields to crisp bursts of citrus and apple. Also notes of orange oil, apple blossom, vanilla, caramel, and soft brine and sea salts.
Palate
Rich chocolate, green apples and a little bittersweet with vanilla hints and a little rye bread. Chocolaty indulgence layered with honeyed spices and Christmas cake. Orange, black pepper, peat, oak, and brine. Hints of malt richness and a chewy texture with wood influence and baking spices.
Finish
Citrus, sea salt and wet grass. Floral notes lend a dash of finesse, while zesty hints of citrus and green apple enliven a lovely long finish. Spicy pepper, ginger, and orange peel alongside a wave of maritime salinity, resolving into rich nougat. Medium with strong allspice, raisins, apple jam, butter and light oiliness.
