Description

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society was founded in Edinburgh in 1983. This is an independent bottling of Old Pulteney, a Highland single malt Scotch whisky. Old Pulteney's identity is closely tied to its coastal setting in Caithness, which is why the whisky is widely presented as “The Maritime Malt.” With traditional warehouses exposed to the invigorating sea air blowing in off the North Sea, Old Pulteney captures the taste of the sea in every drop of its liquid gold.

Nose
Spicy; rich vanilla; a new, wet oak log on a fire; a bundle of no. 2 pencils; light brown sugar; caramel apple; apricot; baked peaches with cinnamon; clover honey; salty, sea spray; and short bread cookie dough.
Palate
Very thick and oily; a good amount of oak; burnt sugar—exactly like the top layer of crème brûlée; loads of vanilla; pear; stewed apples; cinnamon; black pepper; thyme; pine; and salted toffee.
Finish
Long; resinous; spicy—like taking a lick of salt and pepper; heather; brackish; caramel; and lemon-basil squares.
