Description

Established as Speciality Drinks in 1999, Elixir Distillers was set up by brothers Sukhinder and Raj Singh who are also known for founding the online spirits retail site the Whisky Exchange. The independent bottlers have several ranges including the Single Malts of Scotland, Elements of Islay, and Port Askaig. This 2007 Orkney single malt was made at a mystery distillery on Orkney and matured in a single hogshead for 14 years, before being bottled in April 2021 as part of its Whisky Trail Soviet series. It is from Cask Number: 6 and bottled at 56.2% ABV / 70cl.

Nose
a whiff of smoke. A maritime smell, slightly minerally. Brine too. Quite some forest fruits, with mainly blueberries. Sweet strawberries too. Plums. Dark chocolate and a touch of maple syrup. Then tobacco. Red apples and a pinch of honey. Later also a touch of oak.
Palate
blueberries again, strawberries and plums. Raisins. Honey. Dark chocolate and toffee. Maple syrup. Plenty of cinnamon and a hint of ginger. And some tobacco in the background.
Finish
mid-long and slightly drying. cinnamon and raisins. A touch of oak and a balsamic note. Somewhat one-dimensional.
