Description

Paul John started out in 1992 making a variety of spirits, including Indian whisky distilled from Molasses. In 2007 they founded their first single malt distillery, releasing the first expression in 2012. With two more copper pot stills being added to the distillery in early 2017, we can expect to see a lot more Paul John whisky heading our way... Cask Number: 686 59% ABV / 70cl. This is a peated Indian single malt matured in a first fill American oak cask and bottled at natural cask strength. Only 156 bottles were produced.

Nose
Earthy and medicinal peat, peanut skin, aloe and honeyed porridge. Hot porridge with some orange marmalade. Light peat wafts from the sweet grist and handles the oak-induced date and walnut cake with aplomb. Smokey and nutty, spicy.
Palate
Spicy with vanilla, and sweet peaty, malt, toffees and sugars. Syrupy, quite sweet - more orange marmalade and quite a bit of spice on the tongue. The smoke is not slow coming forward and acts as a cushion to the multi layers of crisp sugars, vanilla, malt and toffee. Excellent kick of warming spice which radiates from the developing hickory and Dominican-style cocoa. Ginger, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugary. Slight citrus background.
Finish
Sweet wood spices. Very warming, some malt, spice and quite a bit of smoke. Delicate finish of Dominican cocoa laced with the tart edge of marmalade. Medium, smokey, spicy, citrusy.
