Description

This rare find from the long-lost Pittyvaich distillery is an impressive addition to Hunter Laing's Old & Rare Platinum collection. Distilled in April 1990, the single malt matured for 34 years, with a total of 231 cask-strength bottles drawn from a single Pedro Ximénez sherry hogshead in November 2024. Pittyvaich was one of Speyside's shortest-lived distilleries, operating from 1975 to 1993 and later demolished, making its mature stock extremely limited and sought after. It is unchill-filtered and bottled at natural strength.

Nose
A symphony of fig, molasses, and delicate oak, interwoven with faint floral notes and aged malt sweetness. Rich notes of dried fruit, dark chocolate, and spiced oak greet the nose, a sherry-cask imprint unfolding with elegance and depth.
Palate
Luxurious waves of brown sugar, dark chocolate, and soft spice, carried by Pittyvaich's inherent fruitiness and the decadent sweetness of PX sherry. Velvety and complex on the palate, with caramel and fig, framed by cinnamon, and layered with dried fruit, dark chocolate and spiced oak, finishing with a bright note of orange peel.
Finish
Long, warm, and lingering, revealing gentle cigar box nuances, dried stone fruits, and a final echo of honeyed malt. Long, velvety finish that lingers with dried fruit and dark chocolate, carried by spice and oak. Notes of fig and cinnamon trail into citrusy orange peel, leaving a warm, sophisticated fade.
