A brand of heavily-peated single malt Scotch whisky produced at the Bruichladdich distillery on Islay. It is named after a long-lost neighbouring distillery that closed in 1929 and is produced using malted barley peated to 40ppm. The brand debuted in 2006. Great purity, rather mineral and medicinal (camphor and damp chalk). With water: crystalline, salty, peaty, peppery.
Palate
Classic, creamy, peatier. Plenty of lemon, plasticine, small oysters and heaps of ashes. With water: softer, juicier, little tart apples, honey and white clover.
Finish
Long, with a touch of cough syrup. Honey and fig spirit in the aftertaste.
