Description

Port Charlotte SYC:01 is a 10-year-old heavily peated Islay single malt whisky, distilled in 2013 and bottled in 2024 at 54.4% ABV. This release is part of the Cask Exploration Series and marks the first time Port Charlotte has been matured predominantly in Syrah wine casks. The spirit was initially aged for five years in a combination of first-fill (75%) and second-fill (25%) ex-bourbon barrels. In 2018, it was transferred into first-fill Syrah wine casks from an organic and biodynamic winery in France's Northern Rhône region for a four-year finish, before being married in refill bourbon casks. The whisky is non-chill filtered and has natural color, showcasing a bold and fruity character with characteristic peat smoke.
