Description

When Raymond Armstrong stumbled across the decommissioned Bladnoch distillery in 1994 and eventually negotiated with Diageo, reconstructed the building, and began distilling again in 2000, he wanted to keep whisky fans up to date with progress at the distillery; and therefore, he set up the Bladnoch Distillery Forum. In 2005, Armstrong and his team started to bottle single cask whiskies. This Port Ellen 25 Year Old was bottled for the Bladnoch Forum in 2007, from a butt cask, at cask strength.

Nose
Old citrus smell, almost OBE, fish box, dull peat, seaweed, salty, oily (petrol). After a while some pineapple notes appear among the peaty ones, also some kippery notes in there. Good balance between an almost slight medicinal side and fruity notes.
Palate
Arrives on citrus notes, peat, tar, shellfish, fishing docks, seaside moss, very mineraly. Also some dried fruit (supermarket snacks). Old wet oak, spices and getting slightly herbal too. Some barley sugar and peat rounds the whole thing off.
Finish
Loooong on drying oak and peat.
