Description

Port Ellen, after a quiet period of over four decades, has made a grand re-entrance with the unveiling of Gemini, a duo of remarkable single malts each aged for 44 years. Originating from three exceptional European Oak casks filled in 1978, these whiskies were divided and embarked on unique maturation journeys. The Port Ellen Gemini Original, matured in reserve European Oak butts, represents the untouched character of the 1978 distillation. The Port Ellen Gemini Remnant, the second of these twin whiskies, underwent a unique finishing maturation in a historic remnant cask, salvaged upon the distillery's closure in 1983, which has imparted distinct characteristics. This limited edition release marks the historic reopening of the Port Ellen distillery.

Nose
Maritime notes, baked pear, and sweet edible seaweed with hints of bonfire smoke and fudge from the Original. The Remnant introduces dark sherry, dried fruit, oak spice, tobacco, and charred wood ash, creating a rich, sweet, and smoky aroma.
Palate
Smooth and full-bodied with sweet-spicy flavors, baked apple skins, and a salty, smoky warmth. The Remnant adds sumptuous fruits, deeper spice, and a more pronounced charred ash smokiness.
Finish
Long and lingering with aromatic sweet smoke, evolving into intense sweet-smoky flavors and a spicy crescendo.
