This is the highly sought-after Port Ellen 1978 Natural Cask Strength 24 Year Old - 2nd Release, distilled in 1978 and meticulously bottled in 2002. This limited edition is part of Diageo's annual Special Releases series, with an outturn of 12,000 bottles. Port Ellen, an Islay distillery, developed a cult status following its closure in 1983, with plans for its reopening announced in 2017 and completion in 2024. This expression is renowned for its clean, sweet, powerful, and smoky character, offering a delicate and less oaky style compared to other contemporary Islay whiskies. It represents a significant piece of whisky history from the mothballed distillery.
