- Nose
- Salty and citric, clean and dry with light peat. Dirt, wet mud smoke after fire is extinguished, dung, rotten weeds. Sherry cask impact with sweet notes, red berries & raisins. Peaty and maritime, with brine, seashells and iodine. Slight touch of citrus and apples. Smoke and citrus, Mandarine Napoléon, softly spiced on pepper and olive oil. Peat is soft and sweet, with a sea breeze.
- Palate
- Sweetly barley and soft - warms ashy, oaked, creosoted. Sherry much more noticeable with red berries, nutmeg, cinnamon, dung, rotten weeds and a bit of oak. Very oily and salty, mandarins, yellow and blue plums. Caramel and black pepper. Salty liquorice, mildly drying. Peat is more pronounced. Thick rich mouthfeel, creamy. Orange Julius, honey, lemons. Nice level of peat, powerful but not overpowering. Tar, floral notes, roses, a bit of thyme.
- Finish
- Medium length, sweet red berries, very little peat impact with some oak wood and spices. Long with smoke, pepper, wood and aniseed. Long finish with multilayered peat, brine, sea weed, oatmeal, and a hint of spice. Lingering honey. Lasts very long and keeps a perfect balance between the salty, smoky character of Port Ellen with the sweet and dry elements of the sherry cask. A little bit zesty.
