Nose
I'm hit with a nice wave of lemon custard, orange zest, caramel, and spice. There's a little bit of chocolatey oak buried under all the citrus, and while it's not super noticeable, it provides a nice foundation for the lighter aromas.
Palate
Oily mouthfeel with an extremely aggressive kick of sour upfront. This is all enveloped in bitter chocolate, more orange zest, and layered rye spice. The front of the palate is quickly followed by sweet vanilla, sour lemon candy, and… you guessed it, more orange zest. Im a big fan of how this progresses to the mid palate. The transition from sour to sweet is very dynamic and keeps the experience refreshing.
Finish
What a beautifully long finish. It's so interesting how the flavors become more savory with clove, brown sugar, melted butter, thyme, and some additional herbality to round it out. It's nice that the citrus notes stay consistent throughout this experience, as it makes the pour seem very cohesive overall despite all the different flavor profiles.
