Description

This Royal Brackla from Elixir Distillers is a marriage of six casks, expertly blended by Oliver Chilton. The result is a nimble single malt with stacks of complexity and notes of honeycomb, anisette and neroli, underpinned by hedgerow berries and baking spice. Bottled as a part of The Single Malts of Scotland Reserve Cask's Parcel No.12, this expression hails from Royal Brackla distillery in the Scottish Highlands. It was distilled in 2014, and aged for nine years before being decanted at 48% abv. [3, 4]

Nose
Trickles of floral honey, nougat, and a touch of anise, with vanilla shortbread joining in time. Floral notes of honeysuckle, tarragon and rose petal water, hints of sweet spice and custard creams. A little lactic at first, with hints of sweet buttermilk and bread dough, then fudge, some honey and browning pears, yellow apple, shortbread and lemonade. [1, 2, 4, 7, 8]
Palate
Buttery shortbread carries through, joined by lemon drizzle and cracked peppercorn heat. Buttery with a lovely lemon oil twist, notes of black pepper on fresh Scottish strawberries. Robust spirit, with a thick texture but also a youngish profile (malty notes, Pilsner beer), barley sugars, buttery notes and lemon gums. Mid-palate a nice wave of coffee notes and chocolate comes out, as well as warming hints of peppercorns. [1, 2, 7, 8]
Finish
Subtle red fruits, vanilla cream, a touch of woody spice. Elegant with buttermilk and a lick of spice. Medium, with more warming wood spice and cereals. [1, 2, 7, 8]
