Description

For anyone familiar with the famous old Corries song it's nigh on impossible not to start singing it to yourself upon seeing the Lochnagar name, but even if not you're sure to conjure up a mental image of the majestic mountain. This 36 year old malt is a magnificent tribute to both, matured in a single hogshead cask and emerging with a rich amber hue and sweet, creamy palate

Nose
Mellow; slow to develop yet evenly paced. Early notes of rich wine grow more creamy and fragrant. Fresher and sharper notes of tropical fruit emerge. Finally, autumnal and drying. Light toffee and planed hardwood, with some piney notes, boat varnish and linseed oil; dry overall.
Palate
Medium to rich with a pleasingly creamy texture, sweet and warming, growing aromatic with notes of crème brûlée and some spice. Sweet to short, then acidic, with an attractive lingering sandalwood aftertaste. Medium-bodied.
Finish
Medium to long, pleasingly sour and chewy with lingering, warming spice. Later, a black tea bitterness with a trace of ginger. With water, almost bracing with a memory of sweet cereal and hints of orange oil.
