Description

Shizuoka Distillery Pot Still K is a single malt Japanese whisky from the Shizuoka Distillery, known for its innovative approach and use of both new and historic distillation equipment, including a pot still from the legendary Karuizawa Distillery. This expression is often released as a 'First Edition' and can feature either 100% imported barley (Scottish peated and non-peated malt, German beer malt) or 100% Japanese barley. It is non-age statement and bottled at 55.5% ABV. The whisky is non-chill filtered and often matured in a mix of casks, including bourbon and sherry casks, and sometimes Japanese Mizunara oak.

Fresh and floral, with green apple, citrus peel, and light malt. Subtle herbal notes and vanilla cream. Aromas of freshly baked apple pie, caramelized sugar, and vanilla, with hints of tropical fruits such as pineapple and papaya. Subtle notes of roasted nuts and a touch of light peat smoke add depth. Clean, elegant, sweet and complex, with an intriguing peanutty note, honey, caramel, vanilla, and a unique minerality.
Palate
Delicate and clean, showcasing orchard fruits, white grape, and soft spice. A light nuttiness adds balance. Rich and full-bodied with flavors of honey, toffee, and roasted malt, complemented by juicy citrus and pear notes. A soft spiciness of cinnamon and white pepper brings balance, while a light mineral tone adds freshness. Medium coating mouthfeel, spicy ginger, then mild peat and smokiness, red apples, light smoked honey.
Finish
Gentle and elegant, with faint oak, lemon zest, and lingering floral sweetness. Long and harmonious, with lingering notes of vanilla, oak, and a delicate hint of peat. Long finish mainly due to the spicy, prickly ginger fade.
