Description

The Shizuoka Distillery Potstill K Japanese Barley 2023 Edition is a single malt Japanese whisky, part of the 'Pot Still K' series. This 2023 edition is the second release of the Potstill K Local Barley, distilled using the historic ex-Karuizawa 'Still K' and made with 100% non-peated Japanese barley, primarily from Kyushu. It was matured for approximately three to five years in ex-bourbon and ex-wine casks. Bottled at 55.5% ABV, it is non-chill filtered and natural in color. This limited edition release of 6,000 bottles was primarily allocated for the domestic Japanese market.

Nose
Bright orchard fruit, soft cereal sweetness, white blossoms, Japanese herbal notes, hay, vanilla, a hint of popcorn, mint, aniseed, and a subtle minerality. Also notes of green apple, peach, mandarin, honey, and some estery qualities.
Palate
Oily mouthfeel with botanical notes, juniper berries, lemon peels, and mint. It evolves into maltier and sweeter notes of honey and melons, with lemon tart, tangerine, and spices. There's a presence of spicy ginger and cinnamon, with mild, tame smokiness and new wood.
Finish
Not too long, with malty and lemony freshness. Lingering cinnamon, ginger spices, ripe apples, and wooden notes, ending with sanded oak and grilled peaches in vanilla ice cream. Described as 'kire' or short and sharp.
