Description

Named after a nearby island, Smogen distillery was established on a farm near Hunnebostrand in Sweden in 2009 by Pär Caldenby. This 9-year-old Swedish Single Malt Whisky, part of the Twin Barrels series, is a heavily peated version (50 ppm) made with Optic barley. It was matured in First Fill Bourbon Barrels and bottled at 54.3% ABV in a 50cl bottle. It is non-chill filtered.

Nose
Fine, rich. On the first nose, notes of peat are nuanced by fruity (lemon), ashy, saline and vegetal (ivy, grass) scents. Allowed to aerate, the aromatic palette becomes more vanilla and candied (pear, mirabelle plum), then spicy (clove, nutmeg).
Palate
Lively, precise. As on the nose, a multifaceted peat reigns over the attack. Delicately liquorice, rooty (ginseng) and salty, the mid-palate develops into vanilla and fruity (pear, apple) registers. The end of the palate is spicy (saffron, curry) and lemony.
Finish
Long, slender. Pleasant anise and mint flavors refresh the taste buds. Evoking dried peat, the end of the finish reveals original notes of basil and oregano. The rich end of the finish reveals praline sweets and lavender honey.
