Maltiply Tasting Profile
Nose
Starts on a typical gristy Campbeltown profile with petrol, candle wax, almond paste, leather, silver polish, chalk, rapeseed oil, tobacco, mint, oranges, and apple peelings. Develops hints of flint, dry oak, dried apple, pear skins, and salinity, with a whiff of smoke and soot.
Palate
Intense and oily, with a balance of coastalness, paraffin, brine, grapes, peppery oak, smoke, resinous notes, dusty grains, and waxed furniture. Also features oranges, apples, juicy mirabelles, camphor, and liquorice. Sweetness from barley sugar, with white pepper turning to black pepper, and apricot jam and orange jelly.
Finish
Long, warming, and earthy, with malt, oak, mineral notes, apple, pear, simple syrup, black pepper, and salt. Lingering notes of soot and a greasy fireplace character.

Mint and orange bring a thoughtful lift to its oily, coastal character.

The appeal here is the push and pull between assertive pepper and a clear thread of sweetness. White pepper turning to black pepper gives the palate a gradual spice build, while barley sugar, apricot jam and orange jelly keep it from feeling one-dimensional. The coastal brine, oily wax and lingering soot add a more rugged edge, so this sounds bold rather than easygoing. For someone drawn to spice with a sweet counterpoint, that contrast makes for a compelling, distinctive whisky.

The coastal character, brine and salt give this a clear edge, while oranges and apples keep it from feeling all dry oak and smoke. That balance suits my taste, and the long, earthy finish sounds especially appealing.

The oak is present, from dry oak on the nose to peppery oak on the palate and oak on the finish. But it sits among wax, brine, smoke and oily coastal character, so the wood feels like one part of a much busier picture rather than the main focus.
