Description

This single malt whisky was distilled at Springbank in 1993 and aged for 22 years in a single cask before being bottled in 2015 by Sansibar Whisky. It is one of only 150 bottles. Springbank distillery has been owned and operated by the Mitchell family in Campbeltown since 1837, and is one of Scotland's most revered distilleries. Following a brief mothballing between 1979 and 1987, upon the reopening the decision was taken to cease all sales to the blending industry and focus on its single malt sales. Today it is one of the only distilleries to malt, distil, bottle and mature on site.

Nose
Very direct, with a uniquely mineral, chalky Springbank character. Notes of clay, wet wool, cement, and metallic hints. Also perfumy, lemony, waxy notes, heather, hints of mezcal, and bandages. Sea breeze, vivid and damp peat, mixed with stones and calcareous rocks. An incredible sensation of wet wool and wax crayons, with an 'antiqued' side of starched dresses, dried flowers (violets and heather), and a metallic note. Earl Grey tea, vaguely sugary suggestions, and white peaches.
Palate
Consistent with the nose, showing elegance despite bold, edgy, and austere elements. Sea, earth, and peat clashing, with a hint of smoke and ash. Floral notes, sugary sweetness, and sea water reminiscent of old aftershave. Acrid, peaty, and slightly metallic minerality (starch, wet wool), with a pinch of pepper. Oranges, yellow grapefruits, ginger tonic, zesty lemons, salty liquorice, bitter herbs, chalk, and a light vanilla/lemon candy touch.
Finish
Long, with bitter oranges, pepper, salt, and light ashy notes. Dried flowers, ash, and earth. Extremely mineral and unique.
