Description
This is the 2016 release of the annual limited edition Springbank 25 Year Old. For a period, Campbeltown was the undisputed Whisky Capital of World, boasting over 30 distilleries operating simultaneously at its peak. Locally available peat, barley and coal, coupled with a quick steamship service to Glasgow meant this thriving industry lasted into the early 20th Century. Alas; ultimately (and perhaps inevitably) it proved unsustainable, and by 1935 the bubble had well and truly burst. Springbank is a revered single malt distillery in Campbeltown that has operated since 1828. It is today owned by J&A Mitchell & Co who produce three single malt styles there. These are its flagship two-and-a-half times distilled Springbank, a heavily-peated malt known as Longrow, and the triple-distilled Hazelburn. Distillery Bottling is a term used to define a whisky bottled by the company that produced it. Only 900 bottles were filled in 2016 at 46%. It was distilled in the early 1990s and bottled on 13th December 2016 without chill filtering or added colouring.
