Nose
Spicy (sea salt, pepper), maritime, nutty (hazelnut, coconut, almonds), sherry, Serrano ham, melon, wild strawberries, canned peaches, toffee, vanilla and oaky tannins. Soft sherry notes, gentle toffee, golden raisin, green tea with honey, cinnamon, red and black licorice, candied ginger, hint of coconut macaroon and brine.
Palate
Spicy and woody, with notes becoming clearer with water, leading to greater balance. Toffee, brandied fruit, earthy tones and a flurry of savory notes.
Finish
Without water, a bit too dry; with water, good and in line with past Chieftain's releases. Juicy oak undertones.
