Description

A revered single malt distillery in Campbeltown that has operated since 1828. It is today owned by J&A Mitchell & Co who produce three single malt styles there. These are its flagship two-and-half times distilled Springbank, a heavily-peated malt known as Longrow, and the triple-distilled Hazelburn.

Nose
Dirt, wet soil, dunnage, damp leaves, gasoline/oil notes, dense raisins, grape juice, burnt paper. Water brings out machine oil and petrol station smells.
Palate
Very earthy, restrained sweetness, chalky texture, like chocolate out of a fridge. Prickly mouthfeel. Water calms prickliness, brings out citrus and sour prunes.
Finish
Peat is almost an afterthought, more sooty than anything. Dirty, earthy, grimy.
