A bottle of Springbank 23 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky. This was distilled in 1993, matured in a refill sherry cask and bottled at 52.2% by Elixir Distillers for The Whisky Exchange's Masterpieces series. Nose
Very oily and mineral, with hints of polished brass, sourish peat and old leather. Delicate touches of lime and tangerines. Some floral/heathery notes. Sweet fruits like apricots, peaches, and overly ripe pears, with a drizzle of floral honey and blue cheese. Sweet spiciness, similar to cinnamon sugar and a dash of nutmeg.
Palate
Herbal and grassy with an oily mouthfeel. Gentle arrival of sweet peat and burnt ashiness, developing into a soft fruit stew of pears and apples. Dried apricots and candied pineapples, cacao nibs, and a creaminess towards the end.
Finish
Long with a crispness similar to apple-infused soda water. Minerals, grasses, waxed lemons, and dried flowers giving a perfume note.
