Springbank SMWS 31 Year Old, Sherry Cask, Cask #39, 1964, Scotch Malt Whisky Society, 51%

A revered single malt distillery in Campbeltown that has operated since 1828. It is today owned by J&A Mitchell & Co who produce three single malt styles there. These are its flagship two-and-half times distilled Springbank, a heavily-peated malt known as Longrow, and the triple-distilled Hazelburn. This exceptionally rare sherry-casked Springbank was distilled in December 1964 and bottled for the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, under Society Cask number 27.39, in June 1996. Filled at a natural strength 51% ABV after 31 long years in Sherry wood, the Springbank distillations from this period have garnered stunning accolades and are considered a special rarity.
